Digital Scams 2.0: Artificial Intelligence at the Service of Summer Cybercrime
Summer is when we slow down, plan trips, and increasingly manage online activities from smartphones and tablets. This change in habits creates new opportunities for cybercriminals, who exploit users' reduced attention to launch increasingly sophisticated attacks. The evolution of Artificial Intelligence further complicates the scenario, as it now enables the creation of extremely credible and hard-to-detect scams.
Whether it's a last-minute booking, a QR Code scanned at the airport, or a public Wi-Fi network used during a trip, just one moment of distraction is enough to compromise personal data, login credentials, or company information. Understanding the threats and adopting conscious behaviors is the first step to protecting your digital identity.

Artificial Intelligence makes attacks increasingly credible
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way companies and organizations work, offering tools capable of increasing productivity, efficiency, and innovation. At the same time, however, these same technologies are also being exploited by cybercriminals to make attacks more effective.
Traditional phishing campaigns are giving way to content created with generative AI, free of the errors that once made it easy to recognize a fraud attempt. Today, a fraudulent communication can reproduce a company's tone of voice, perfectly imitate the graphics of a booking portal, or simulate a credible conversation with a colleague or family member.
Among the most common techniques are Voice Cloning, which replicates a voice from just a few seconds of recording, video Deepfakes, capable of simulating the identity of real people, and the cloning of booking sites that are almost indistinguishable from official ones.
This scenario demonstrates that cybersecurity no longer depends exclusively on defense technologies, but also on people's ability to recognize anomalous behaviors and always verify the reliability of sources. For this reason, it is essential to invest in prevention, training, and adequate protection tools.
Why summer increases the risk of cyberattacks
During the summer months, our digital habits change. Last-minute bookings, connections from airports and hotels, the use of public Wi-Fi networks, and downloading apps for travel and tourist services all increase the attack surface.
One of the most common schemes continues to be that of so-called "ghost houses": seemingly authentic ads, images copied from reliable platforms, and payment requests that lead the user out of the protected circuits of booking platforms.
Also, Quishing, or phishing delivered via QR Code, represents a constantly growing threat. A simple sticker placed over an original code can redirect to a fraudulent website or induce the download of counterfeit applications.
An interesting fact concerns the human factor. Digital experience doesn't always equate to greater security: younger users, often accustomed to browsing quickly and making decisions in a few seconds, tend to less carefully verify websites, payment methods, and the authenticity of communications.
For this reason, continuous training is one of the most effective tools for reducing cyber risk and strengthening organizational resilience.

Small checks that make a big difference
In a context where threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, even a few checks can significantly help reduce risk. Before completing a booking or authorizing a payment, it is advisable to:
- Verify that the website's domain matches the official one;
- Only use payment systems integrated into the platforms;
- Avoid sensitive operations when connected to public Wi-Fi networks;
- Download applications only from official stores, always verifying the developer's identity
These simple checks take only a few minutes but represent an important preventive measure, both for private users and for those using company devices during business trips and travel.
Artificial Intelligence will continue to transform the cybersecurity threat landscape, making attacks increasingly convincing. Consequently, security cannot be limited to adopting technological solutions: it is necessary to develop a strategy that integrates protection, continuous monitoring, and human awareness.
Protect your company before a threat becomes an incident
Cyber threats don't take holidays. On the contrary, they continuously evolve and exploit moments when attention is low to target individuals and organizations. For this reason, it is crucial to adopt a proactive approach to cybersecurity, combining advanced technologies, constant monitoring, and user training. Only in this way is it possible to reduce the risk of attacks and ensure business continuity.
