AI for Humans
Can AI be human?
Artificial Intelligence is redefining every sector, but a dilemma remains open: how to prevent technological efficiency from overwhelming the human element?
The answer came up during “AI For Humans”, the BlueIT event recorded at the RAI studios in Milan with IBM and Digitalic, which transformed a fragment of medieval ceramics into a powerful metaphor for modern innovation.
The paradox of the Benedictine dish
That fragment from 1250 — with its revolutionary brown pigment — tells a timeless truth: “Innovation lasts only if it combines utility and beauty”, as Francesco Marino emphasized when opening the proceedings.
Today we live in the Paradox of hyper-automation: the more algorithms we create, the more we risk losing control over their social impact. Companies are clamoring for AI, but they often don't know how to:
▸ Integrate it without disrupting existing processes
▸ Measure results beyond technical KPIs
▸ Maintain a balance between automation and human control
The three pillars of human-first AI
The event outlined a concrete method based on:
- The legacy that innovates — Starting from existing infrastructures (Cloud, SAP, IBM i) as a secure base for experimenting
- The ethical acceleration — Use frameworks such as the AI Accelerator to go from POC to production in 12 weeks, with human validation gate
- The responsible ecosystem — Combining technologies (IoT, automation, AI) into synergistic architectures monitored by AI Ops

From principles to practice
- IBM showed how Watsonx and Power systems become contextualized AI enablers: “You don't need the most powerful solution, but the one that communicates with your IT assets” (Marco De Ieso)
- Consorzio.it brought the concrete case of an AI system for predictive maintenance: “We have reduced downtime by 35% while maintaining human decision-making” (Andrea Tironi)
- BlueIT has unveiled the operating model behind the successes: from the AI Accelerator to the Benefit certification, to the Innovation Hub that tests emerging technologies
The high road? The one traced 800 years ago
Just as Benedictine monks created a pigment to give dignity to everyday life, BlueIT shows that true innovation comes when:
→ Technology serves real needs
→ Values guide technical choices
→ The method transforms vision into repeatable actions
Special thanks to all participants and partners. Let's continue to build together an AI that does not replace, but increases the human.
